Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a beginner do Pilates exercises?

As a beginner, try two to three Pilates classes a week to see results. You'll soon begin to improve posture, balance, strength and even reduce pain with even one session a week, or just two. The benefits appear to taper out at three Pilates workout sessions a week, though.

What Pilates classes are best for beginners?

Pilates doesn't have the steepest learning curve. However, some forms of Pilates are easier than others. If you're looking to try Pilates at home, why not try mat Pilates? Alternatively, our Nuforma reformer Pilates classes are great for beginners!

What do I need for beginner Pilates?

Just bring yourself! No special equipment is required for our Pilates classes. You might like to bring along a towel and water bottle. Be sure to wear clothing that allows you to move your arms and hips around freely.

How do I prepare my body for Pilates?

Pilates doesn't require anything specific in terms of warming up. Simply go for a gentle walk, maybe rotate your arms or go up some stairs, shake yourself out - anything that will get your body gently moving.

Can I start Pilates by myself?

Yes - as long as you won't exacerbate any injuries, it's totally fine to try out Pilates workouts and our instructors are always on hand to help offer support and advice.

What not to do in Pilates?

Pilates is a straightforward enough practice. However, there are a few things you should always remember to do. For example, always pay attention to your alignment as you come out of a movement. Breathing is also important - it helps you control how you use your core and avoid 'bracing'. You should also be careful about overusing your pelvic floor - only use your muscles as and when you need to. But don't worry - our trained Pilates instructors will help you master the practice in no time!
